MBA - A week later

Hello Everybody,
it's been 8 days since I started the MBA. It's the first day I get to post anything because it's been like crazy and sorry but I'll be writing in English only for two reasons, one because I think everybody that reads my blog understands it, and second because I need to practice my english writing.
OK, now to business.
It's been a great and very interesting week. Not so much for the academical side of it but for all the people I've met.
Let me say briefly that we haven't officially started classes yet, so we've been having these workshops, lectures, orientations, etc...mostly introductions to different subjects such as accounting, strategic management, group dynamics, etc and several introductions to services provided by the University and the MBA, last but not least we've spent plenty of "social" hours like meeting our classmates, second year students and staff from GWU which I think it's the most important thing here.

What can I say about my classmates, to start with let me tell you that we are 76 in the generation (MBA Candidates for 2007 that is) split in two Cohorts (one is called G and the other is called W - the one that I belong to) and within those cohorts they've assigned us to a study group of 6 or 7 people (mine is 6).
More than half are from the US, but the rest come from countries such as: Morocco, France, Belgium, Macedonia, Greece, Taiwan, China, Japan, Corea, India, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Perú, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Pakistan, Turquey and I'm sure I'm forgetting some country, I apologize for that.
Getting to know these people has been one of the most interesting things I've ever done. There's much to learn about their cultures, their countries, their ways, etc. This is why I chose GWU and I'm convinced I made the right choice. I hope that in time I get to tell you about some classmates, but now I can't get into details.

Today I met my mentor, his name is Brandon and he is from Taiwan, he is a great guy and we got along very well. I think we can be of great help to each other. He founded a software company in Taiwan 5 years ago so hopefully he can give me plenty of tips when I embark in such enterprise.

I'm a little worried about the amount of information that we receive each day whether it is on presentations, e-mails or handouts of things to read, it's overwhelming actually. I hope to get along with it and learn how to cope it. Classes haven't even started yet!!!

Pola Locura

Hola Estimados,
esta vez quería presentarles a quien considero mi nueva hija, se llama Pola Locura y nació el 15 de agosto de 2005. Es hija de Lesapunta (una yegua madre de mi propiedad y cuidada en el Polo Haras La Polaca) y de Lotrenz un padrillo de gran calidad y ganador nato.
Todavía no la conocí pero gracias a la tecnología de hoy día ya tengo fotos de ella del día que nació y de los días siguientes (la foto que ven arriba es de varios días de nacida) que me mandó mi Padre. Más allá de eso, el sentimiento que se genera al saber que un ser como Pola Locura nació es difícil de describir. Seguro que cualquier padre o madre entenderá lo que quiero decir. No quiero ni saber lo que será el tener un hijo de verdad!!!
Por lo que me han contado parece que Pola Locura hace honor al nombre y que tiene un temperamento inquieto, bueno por algo será que a mi se me ocurrió ese nombre. Lo que estoy seguro que va a ser una locura es poder llegar a taquearla o meterla a un partido en 3 años....que impaciencia!!!

Tennis Internacional - Volumen 1

Súper clásico en Arlington, Los toros de young en histórico partido derrotan al favorito Old Christians. El miércoles 10 de agosto, se disputo el primero de los súper clásicos de arlington. Arlington, la catedral del tenis americana solo comparable con wimbeldon fue el escenario de un partido extraordinario. Los equipos participantes fueron el Montevideo Old Christians y Los Toros de Young. Old Christians sin duda el favorito por sus jugadores de altísima trayectoria, cayo ante su rival por 6-3,2-6,6-4.El equipo de Old Christians estuvo formado por Juan Ignacio Francisco Berenbau Giuria y Carlos Landauer Novoa, mientras que Los toros jugaron Mateo Fernández y JM Lavista.Se jugo a estadio lleno, cosa esperada debido a que las entradas en ticketmaster se habían agotado 9 meses antes, un existo comparable solo con la gira de los Rolling Stones.El próximo sábado se jugara la revancha y el publico espera un espectáculo similar.

Almost one month to go

Hi All (actually all refers to 2 or 3 who read my blog jaja)
It's been some time now since I don't post anything so here I am back again.
I've been with lots of work during the past months because when I start the MBA I'm going to work part time so they are trying to get the most out of me now. I don't blame them. And besides I'd rather be very busy than just standing there.

Well now to what I want to speak in this post. There's almost a month before I start the MBA, there's an orientation called the MBA Institute that starts on Aug 17th and lasts for 2 weeks. Classes start on Aug 31st.

The orientation is a set of social activities, workshops and lectures in order to get us ready for the MBA and so that the students know each other and friendships start to forge. We even have to go to a Baseball game, to see the Washington Nationals (which formed recently) I've never been to a baseball game and even I'm not very fond of baseball, it's going to be a good experience...maybe I get to like it ;-)

I'm very excited about the MBA, but as the date approaches it's like I get more nervous and uneasy as well. It's going to be a very difficult task for me since I'm going to be working as well, but I'm convinced that it's worth it.

These last months I've been trying to get inside the "business" world, by reading magazines or articles on the internet. I don't want to stick only to the latest Windows version or a new technology. I don't want to leave that part behind as well, since I believe my success will depend on how well I combine this two things.

Y ahora en español.....
Hola a Todos (las 2 o 3 personas que leen mi blog jaja)
Hace ya un tiempo que no publico nada así que aquí estoy nuevamente.
He estado con mucho trabajo estos últimos meses ya que cuando comienze el MBA voy a trabajar medio tiempo entonces están sacando el máximo de mi ahora. No los culpo. Además prefiero estoy muy ocupado a no tener mucho o nada para hacer.

Bueno ahora voy a lo que quiero hablar en este caso. Falta poco más de un mes para que comienze el MBA. Hay una orientación llamada "MBA Institute" que comienza el 17 de agosto y dura 2 semanas. Las clases arrancan el 31 de agosto. La orientación es una serie de actividades sociales, talleres y conferencias de manera de prepararnos para el MBA y para que los estudiantes nos conozcamos y las amistades comienzen a formarse. Incluso vamos a ir a un partido de baseball, a ver a los Washington Nationals (que se formaron hace poco). Nunca fui a un partido de baseball y la verdad que no soy muy fan que digamos, pero será una buena experiencia quien sabe? capaz me termina gustando ;-)

Estoy muy entusiasmado con el MBA, pero a medida que la fecha se acerca es como que me voy poniendo más nervioso también.Va a ser una tarea difícil ya que voy a estar trabajando part time, pero estoy convencido de que valdrá la pena.
Estos últimos meses he intentado meterme más en el mundo de los negocios, leyendo revistas o artículos en internet. No quiero limitarme solo a la ultima versión de Windows o a una nueva tecnología. Pero tampoc quiero dejar esa parte de lado, ya que creo que mi éxito depende de que tan bien pueda combinar esas dos cosas.

Officially In

Hi Everybody (or should I say Seba ;-)
As of today I'm officially enrolled for the MBA at GWU, I'm very excited!!!
Classes start on August 17th and I can't wait.
Also I've spoken to my bosses and agreed with them to work part time so things couldn't be better.
The two years to come are going to be tough, but I'm sure they'll be worth it.

A partir de hoy estoy oficialmente inscripto para el MBA en George Washington University, estoy muy contento la verdad!!
Arranco el 17 de agosto.
También he hablado con mis jefes y acordamos que trabaje a medio tiempo, así que las cosas van sobre ruedas.
Serán un par de años bastante duros pero seguro que valdrán la pena.
